Neusport Football Club is a huge part of the Owens Family's life. They live and breathe soccer, and they consider Neusport to be an extension of their family. Busy Mom Carrie Owens manages her daughter Julie’s team when she’s not shuttling Julie or her son Tanner (also on a Neusport team — ’94 Boys) to practices and games.

Her oldest daughter Becky is a UNLV student and a Neusport alum (’88 Girls) who switched clubs after losing the state cup to a Neusport team while playing for the Jammers. Becky started playing for Neusport when she was 11-years old. “Neusport is the place to be,” says Becky. “They are known for having the most state championships and the most kids going to college to play soccer after leaving the club.” Sixteen out of the 18 U19 girls who graduated from high school in 2007 went to college on soccer scholarships. Neusport is also known for having the most kids in the ODP (Olympic Development Program).

Julie Owens, a current member of the Neusport ’91 Green Team dubbed “Saeed’s Dream Team,” has been playing for the club since she was in the U11 group. Julie’s team is the first girl’s team in Nevada to make the regional finals. Through Neusport she has had the opportunity to travel to places such as North Carolina and Florida for competitions. Neusport teams get to travel pretty extensively. Regional competitions have been held in California, Colorado and even Hawaii. Neusport is regularly invited to participate in the biggest tournament on the West Cost – The Surf Cup in San Diego. Recently, Julie was noticed by several college coaches and was invited to soccer camps at West Point and Pepperdine University over the summer. The people at Neusport are definitely her favorite part of the club. “I love my teammates,” she says, “They are like my second family. I have about 19 sisters…and 19 moms!”

Tanner Owens is a member of the ’94 Boys team who also enjoys playing with his teammates. “I get to play with all my friends and we’re all really good,” he says. Tanner also credits Neusport with having the best coaches in all of Nevada. “People are leaving other clubs and joining Neusport just for the coaches.” With talent like Tom Amick and Steve Cooke, Neusport is quickly helping to make Nevada as well-known for soccer as states like California. At regional competitions, kids get at many as three coaches assisting them. Making connections with these professionals is beneficial not only to expand skill, but also for future planning. “Neusport coaches know a lot of college coaches,” the Owens family says.

Neusport prides their club on being all about the kids, but parents are part of the family, too. “They are very organized,” says Mom, Carrie Owens. “They have good coaches and it’s like a little community — a family. We moved here from Southern California, and Neusport is how we’ve met most of our friends in Las Vegas.
